Busia Governor Ojaamong arrested, to face corruption related charges

Busia Governor Ojaamong has been arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC).

This comes just a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji approved his prosecution alongside 9 county staff over alleged abuse of office.

Ojaamong, who is currently being grilled at the EACC headquarters is accused of irregular acquisition of integrated solid waste management services in the county.

Ojaamong who is expected to be arraigned in court will face a 6-count charge.

In a charge sheet seen by Citizen Digital, Ojaamong, alongside 8 others will be charged with; conspiracy to commit economic crime, abuse of office, engaging in a project without proper planning, failure to comply with law relating to management of public funds and 2 counts of fraudulent acquisition of public property.

The eight are; Benard Yaite, Timon Otieno, Leonard Wanda,Allan Ekweny, Samuel Ombui, Edna Adhiambo, Renish Achieng, Sebastian Hallensleben and Madam R Enterprises.

DPP Haji says the governor flouted procurement procedures leading to the loss of at least 20 million shillings.
