Busia: Health officials intensify strict measures to curb Ebola at border

Health officials at the Busia border have intensified screening of travellers from Uganda following another Ebola death reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Senior Public Health Assistant Sospeter Omolo stated that they have taken measures to ensure all people crossing into the country are taken through the active border post for screening.

Officials are also urging Kenyans to use designated border points to avoid interacting with people suspected to be infected with the virus and might be trying to make their way into the country.

A seclusion room has also been set aside for handling emergencies.

The health officer further added that that there is an isolation ward at the Busia County Referral Hospital and at Malaba Dispensary where any suspected Ebola cases are quarantined as they await medication.

So far Ebola has claimed close to 1800 lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
