Businesses Operate as Usual Despite Polling Going on

Majority of business operators and especially open air market traders continued with their businesses even as the voting process continued.

The traders, known for their competitiveness, said that they were willing to vote but could not leave their businesses unattended to.

The business community further noted that traders would suffer huge losses should they shut down their businesses to go and vote.

Despite the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) setting some polling stations closer to the traders and in major market places, the turn out remained low for the better part of the day.

An IEBC official who spoke to Citizen TV on conditions of anonymity said that the low voter turnout could be linked to the low-level campaigns by the contestants.

The voting process is expected to conclude by %pm in the evening to allow for vote-counting and subsequent release of results by the IEBC.

The seat fell vacant following the killing of area MP George Muchai on February 7th this year.
