Businessman released on Ksh.1M cash bail for allegedly obtaining Ksh.5M under false pretenses

A Nairobi businessman was on Monday arraigned in court and charged with obtaining money by false pretenses.

Benson Ritho Muriithi was released on a cash bail of Ksh.1 million and the case was set for mention on March 22 this year.

The court heard that between August 23, 2011 and September 30, 2014, the accused obtained Ksh.5 million from Francis Njoroge Muya by falsely pretending that he was in apposition to sell to him a parcel of land, a fact the accused knew to be false.

Muriithi, appearing before Magistrate Martha Mutuku, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
