Businessman selling rotten meat as minced meat arrested

A city businessman is set to appear in court Wednesday, February 8 after he was arrested on Tuesday with contaminated meat.

Joseph Murigi Muthama, was arrested by the Nairobi City County Veterinary department officers in collaboration with the team from the City Inspectorate Department, with uninspected and contaminated meat.

The meat, which was packed in five batches, was destined for City Market, the City’s busiest and biggest market.

Mr Murigi had packed the rotten meat in five batches and at the time of arrest, he had sold one batch as minced meat.

This is the second time he was arrested over a similar offence.

“We urge all residents to be careful when buying meat and poultry. They should ensure that whatever is being sold to them is fresh and inspected properly,” said the County Government of Nairobi department of Veterinary services in a statement.

“The Veterinary department has heightened surveillance in respective slaughter houses and meat and poultry joints within the city.”
