Businesswoman Kabura fails to appear before EACC over NYS scam

Businesswoman Josephine Kabura has failed to appear before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for grilling over her explosive affidavit which linked former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to the 791 million shillings National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

Kabura’s lawyers told EACC officials that she is unwell and she has requested to appear before the anti graft czar on Tuesday next week.

Waiguru will also be grilled by the EACC next week after the commission re-opened investigations into the multi-million shilling NYS tender scam following Kabura’s affidavit.

The Director of Banking Fraud Investigations Joseph Mugwanja was on Wednesday grilled by the commission over claims by Kaburu that he attempted to cover up the scandal.

An affidavit sworn by Kabura, who is one of the key suspects in the Ksh 791 Million NYS scam brought to the fore details of how the alleged grand scheme was executed.

Kabura claimed Waiguru tried to cover up the looting by diverting attention from investigating bodies and implicating junior officers in her Ministry.

Kabura also accused the Director at the Banking Fraud Department of covering up the NYS scam.

Kabura had claimed in the affidavit that they had met with Waiguru in Runda, something the former CS terms as a lie adding that she was living in Kitsuru at the said time.

The EACC has since summoned all the people mentioned in the affidavit.
