Cabinet secretaries defend IFMIS, term it transparent

Cabinet Secretaries Henry Rotich (National Treasury) and Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution) have defended the government’s Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) amid allegations of hacking in the National Youth Service and Kilifi County Government corruption scandals.

CS Rotich said IFMIS was introduced to ensure transparency and accountability in the government’s procurement and payment transactions; further appealing to governors to embrace the system that he said would “help them tame corruption in the counties”.

On his part, CS Kiunjuri termed IFMIS as a milestone project for the Jubilee Government intended to ensure transparency in government offices, adding that it had been fully tested and found to be effective.

Kiunjuri noted that, used appropriately, IFMIS would prevent the embezzlement of public funds.

The duo was speaking at a PCEA church fundraiser in Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County.
