Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries Step Aside Over Graft Allegations

Cabinet Secretaries Eng. Michael Kamau of Transport and Infrastructure, Davis Chirchir of Energy and Petroleum, Kazungu Kambi of Labour and Felix Koskei of Agriculture stepped aside in compliance with President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive after their names featured in the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) report. 

The four positions have since been filled temporarily.

Kamau’s Transport ministry will be manned by Dr. James Macharia of Health on an acting capacity; Energy’s Davis Chirchir has been replaced by Treasury’s Henry Rotich on an acting capacity; Labour’s Kazungu Kambi replaced by Defence’s Rachel Omamo on an acting capacity; while Koskei’s Ministry of Agriculture will be headed by Adan Mohamed of Industrialization on an acting capacity.

Other Senior Officers and Principal Secretaries have also informed the President that they have complied with his directive. They include Francis Kimemia, the Secretary to the Cabinet, Mutea Iringo, Principal Secretary for Defence, Nduva Muli, Principal Secretary State Department of Transport, Patrick Omutia, Principal Secretary for Mining and James Teko, Principal Secretary State Department of Water.

 Marianne Kittany, the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy President, Esther Koimet, the Investment Secretary, National Treasury, and Ambassador Jane Waikenda, the Deputy Head of Mission, Kenya Embassy South Africa have also stepped aside to pave way for investigations by the anti-graft czar.

 

Special state corporations boards meetings

The Head of State further instructed State Corporation Boards to urgently convene Special Board Meetings, to appoint acting Officers for all named Chief Executives and other officers.

The named State Corporations officers are Patrick Osero, Chairman Agricultural Finance Corporation; Silas Simiyu, Managing Director, Geothermal Development Company; Francis Oyatsi, Managing Director Nzoia Sugar Company; Richard Langat, Managing Trustee NSSF; Evans Ngibuini, Acting Chief Executive, National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation; Alex Kabuga, Chief Executive, Kentrade; Lucy Mbugua, Managing Director, Kenya Airports Authority; Charles Tonui, Managing Director, Kenya Pipeline Corporation; and Allan Chenane, Chief Executive, Tourism Fund/Catering Levy Trustee.
