Cambodian government seeks peace-building through cooperation with NGO

The government of Cambodia is seeking to introduce nation-wide peace education and develop related policies and programs through cooperation with an international peace NGO, HWPL.

Through the Ministry of Education, the Cambodian government, will on February 21 host the 2019 Grand Opening Ceremony of HWPL Department of Peace Education in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The event set to be graced by over 1000 attendees including government officials will be held at the Royal University of Phnom Penh.

“From this launching ceremony, we step forward to the implementation level to integrate ideas of peace education into the curriculums in Cambodian schools,” says H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, the Minister of Education.

Along with the national efforts, the Ministry of Justice and Cultural Human Resources Council (CHRC) of Cambodia will also join in cooperation to forge the substantive peaceful society.

At the peace foum, the Ministry of Justice, government officials and civic groups will seek for ways to develop principles of peace into a binding international order based on the DPCW.

The DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) addresses principles of conflict resolution and international cooperation for peacebuilding such as prohibition of use of force, peaceful dispute settlement, and spreading a culture of peace, within 10 articles and 38 clauses.

“This series of peace events strengthens cooperative partnership between the government of Cambodia and HWPL, international network for development through education, and overall facilitation of Cambodia-Korean friendship. On 21st and 22nd, February, Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL as a peace activist will appeal to Cambodia by highlighting that all people become messengers of peace to achieve a world of peace,” Sang-dae Lee, the Chief Branch Manager in Jeonbuk branch states.

HWPL and the Great Supreme Patriarch of Kingdom of Cambodia have had international exchanges including Religious Youth Peace Camp in Cambodia, 2017.

Since 2016, His Holiness Tep Vong, the Great Supreme Patriarch of Kingdom of Cambodia, has visited the HWPL Peace Summit in South Korea to deliver messages of peace to the globe.
