Campaigns end today for Kitui West by-election

The official campaign period for Kitui West by election comes to a close today as votes prepare to cast their ballot on Monday to elect their member of parliament following the demise of Francis Nyenze in December last year.

The race has attracted five candidates among them Nyenze’s widow Edith Nyenze running on a Wiper Party ticket.

While Edith is seen as a front runner in the Monday race, she will however have to go past Narc Kenya’s Robert Leli, Dennis Mulwa who is running as an independent candidate, Kenya Social Congress Flagbearer Fridah Mutui and Elijah Kilonzo of Chama cha Mashinani.

Edith is a career teacher, who for many years served as the Kyondoni girls secondary school principal and her campaigns have been spearheaded by Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka as well as other party bigwigs.

IEBC will over the weekend distribute ballot material to the constituency’s 103 polling stations, in readiness for the Monday contest.

Kitui West, with four wards, is one of the eight constituencies in Kitui county with an estimated population of 102,314 and has 52,042 registered voters.
