Cancel Police Recruitment Exercise, Says MP

Parliament’s security committee member and Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi now says the Johnstone Kavuludi led commission should not allow the recruitment of recruits from the areas where the public have questioned the transparency of the exercise.

Speaking to Royal Media’s Hot 96fm on phone, Mwangangi has also asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku to ensure parliament is briefed on the audit report of the controversial recruitment exercise.

The national assembly has since ordered the National Police Service Commission to suspend admission of police recruits to training colleges pending a probe of the recruitment exercise.

A multi agency group has since been formed to probe the exercise with an assurance from the NPSC chair Johnstone Kavuludi that his commission will deal with the defaulters decisively.

Administration and national security committee chairman Asman Kamama had also written to the National Police Service Commission chairman Johnstone Kavuludi  and CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro summoning them  to appear before the committee as parliament begins a parallel investigation over allegations of bribery, nepotism and political interference during the July 14 exercise.

Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission Chairperson Mumo Matemu has also been summoned to appear before Kamama’s committee.

The recruitment targeted 10,000 police officers countrywide.

6,000 of those recruited will join regular police while the remaining 4,000 will be administration police officers.

The government set aside Ksh 2.9B for the recruitment exercise.
