Cancelling exam over my portrait unfair, Governor Rasanga says

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has finally broken his silence on the controversial County Mock exam that was cancelled by Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i last week saying the reaction was unfair.

Speaking at his home in Segere Village, Alego/Usonga Constituency, Rasanga wondered why Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua sponsored an exam with his portrait on the exam papers, and another aspirant sponsored one in Kisii but the CS did nothing about it.

The governor defended his move to print his portrait on the exam papers saying there was nothing wrong with that, noting that in Mombasa County children drink milk with Governor Hassan Joho’s picture on the box.

Governor Rasanga added that he did not spend public funds in sponsoring the county mock examination as perceived, adding that the Ksh.1.7 million was a donation from friends towards supporting the education of children in the county.

Rasanga, who was addressing Rarieda teachers at his Segere Village home, said that he could direct part of his allocation for entertainment towards the support for education.

Meanwhile, KNUT Siaya branch leadership has threatened to mobilize teachers in the entire county to sabotage the forthcoming KCPE examinations should the Ministry of Education fail to reinstate the directors of education who were interdicted in connection with the controversial county mock exam.

KNUT Siaya County Treasurer George Arek stated that they would instruct all teachers in the region to down their tools if the directors are not reinstated.
