Cane farmers in Muhoroni demand audit reports

Cane farmers in Muhoroni are demanding for an audit report on the status of the factory to be made public to farmers.

The farmers say several government officers have continuously done audits and assessments in the factory but farmers are kept in the dark.

Led by the Kenya National Federation of Sugarcane Farmers Muhoroni Branch Secretary Noah Opiyo, the farmers said they are key stakeholders in running of the mill.

Opiyo says Muhoroni has had several challenges in the past including shutting down completely and adding that they must be told whoever was responsible for any misdoings.

Speaking to Citizen Digital,  Opiyo said the government must embrace public participation in the running of the mills to ensure prudence in management.

He says cane farmers will not accept further closure of the factory which is the backbone of several farmers in the area.
