Cars burnt over land dispute along Meru-Tharaka Nithi border

Two cars were on Monday evening burnt down along the border of Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties over an alleged land dispute.

Two cars were on Monday evening burnt down at areas of Kathangachwe near Gatithini over an alleged land dispute.

According to area residents, the incident happened after a land demarcation officer arrived to outline boundaries on the disputed land in Kathangachwe near Gatithini at the borders of the two counties.

Police officers were forced to shoot in the air to disperse an angry mob after the cars believed to belong to a certain advocate in the area went up in flames.

One person was reported injured during the chaos and rushed to Marimanti Hospital.

Igembe South police boss James Kosgei and his Tharaka North counterpart Chisambo Mathias are expected to hold a public baraza at Kathangachwe market to discuss the issue with the area residents.
