Case against Starehe MP Charles Njagua Jaguar set for Wednesday

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has said it is ready to press charges against Starehe MP Charles Njagua aka Jaguar on Wednesday.

Jaguar, who was before Senior Resident Magistrate Sinkyani Tobiko, is facing charges of alleged incitement against foreign traders.

”Probe on Starehe MP Charles Njagua over xenophobic remarks complete,” a statement on the ODPP website reads.

The ODPP had requested that Jaguar be detained for 14 days to allow for further investigations.

However, on Friday last week, the court granted the prosecution three working days excluding Saturdays and Sundays to secure witnesses.

The MP had been arrested on Wednesday last week outside Parliament buildings.

His remarks drew strong reactions with Tanzania even summoning Kenya’s High Commissioner to Dar es Salaam to explain what had happened.

Detectives have since confiscated the MP’s mobile phone for forensic examination.

The investigating team also wrote to the Communications Authority (CA) and media houses asking to be provided with recordings of the comments that he made on the fateful day.
