Catholic priest collapses and dies at pulpit

The Catholic Diocese of Bungoma County is in mourning after a priest collapsed and died at the pulpit.

According to Bungoma Bishop Norman Kong’oo Wambua, the deceased collapsed at 4PM at the Mabanga Church and was pronounced dead a few minutes later.

The body has been moved to a Bungoma County Referral mortuary awaiting a postmortem.

Fr. James Mabele is said to have been suffering from a kidney-related disease which may have lead to his death.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Friday, Bishop Wambua said Fr. Mabele’s funeral plans are underway and that he will be laid to rest next week in Bungoma.

“I send my condolences to Mr Mabele’s family and congregants. He was a role model to many and served the Catholic Church for 38 years,” he said.
