Catholic Priest John Njoroge shot dead in Kiambu robbery

A Catholic priest at Kinoo Parish in Kiambu, Father John Njoroge Muhia, was on Monday shot dead while on his way to bank the Sunday offerings.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu County Police Commander Adiel Nyange said an unknown amount of money was stolen from the priest during the incident.

According to the police boss, the gang of four men who were riding on motorcycles obstructed the priest at a rough road, forcing him to pull over, and demanded for a bag from his car.

Mr. Nyange added that one of the thugs then brandished a pistol and shot the deceased on the chest through the windscreen of his vehicle.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, a eyewitness said the thugs then quickly opened the car and removed the bag and a mobile phone then fled on their motorcycles.

Another witness who was driving nearby at the time of the incident said he rushed the priest to Kikuyu Hospital but was he declared dead on arrival.

Mr. Nyange stated that investigation into the killing has since been launched, further urging churches, residents and business people to ask for police escort when taking money to the bank.
