Census official sent home after skipping duty to ride boda boda

A census enumerator at Kigoto village in Homa Bay County was on Monday disqualified from the ongoing exercise after he absconded duty.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Homa Bay County Commissioner Harman Shambi said the enumerator’s contract was terminated after he deliberately left his work only to return to his previous job of riding a boda boda.

According to Mr. Shambi, the man was found transporting passengers with his motorcycle at a time when he was expected to be enumerating area residents.

The police boss added that the action demonstrated the man’s inability to do his work hence has been replaced by a reserve enumerator.

Suba Deputy County Commissioner Kamau Maina further stated that the enumerator covered only four households on Saturday night and went back home to sleep, returned on Sunday and covered one household before leaving again.

Mr. Maina also added that a section of Suba South residents had tried to chase away the enumerators on Sunday night but the situation was contained by the area administrators.
