Central leaders want second generation brew banned

Leaders from Central Kenya region now want second generation brews banned completely and their production stopped with immediate effect.

Led by Kiharu Member of Parliament Irungu Kangata, the leaders say the second generation brews have affected many young people leading to high rates of joblessness and crime.

Mr Kangata, who led an onslaught on illicit brew dens in his constituency, the leaders called for a fresh audit of all alcohol manufacturing plants in the country to allow for fresh applications by the manufacturers.

His sentiments follows a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to Central Kenya leaders to crackdown on illicit brew in the region and submit a report to him on Monday evening.

During the raid, the officers seized and destroyed chang’aa and chemicals used in its preparation.

The Kiharu legislature, in conjunction with administration officers, poured the chang’aa and destroyed the apparatus that are used in brewing process.

The suspected brewers of the illicit liquor are said to have fled their homes to avoid arrest.

The legislator has urged the Judiciary to deal more harshly and firmly with those brewing the liquor in the area.
