Man accused of theft at plush Nairobi hotels charged

Chacha John Mwita, believed to have had ‘special’ access to high-end Nairobi hotels and stolen from guests has been arraigned in court.

He appeared at the Milimani Law Courts on Friday where he was charged with breaking into rooms at the Nairobi Safari Club Hotel and The Clarion Hotel.

The court was told that Chacha broke into four rooms, stole cash in Kenyan and foreign currencies as well as other valuables.

He is alleged to have stolen from the Nairobi Safari Club Hotel on May 15, 2018 and at The Clarion Hotel on May 4, 2018.

Chacha however denied the allegations and was released on a bond of Ksh.600,000 with an alternative cash bail of Ksh.400,000.

Through his advocate, the accused asked Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi to order the police to take him to hospital.

He claimed he was roughed up by officers who arrested him.

The application was granted and the case will be mentioned on June 4, 2018.
