Chaos at Orange House as Ongoro supporters threaten to eject boss

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) headquarters in Nairobi’s Kilimani area witnessed chaotic scenes after supporters of nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro tried to storm the Executive Director’s office following reports that the Senator has been barred from contesting for the Ruaraka Parliamentary seat.

Ongoro’s supporters turned chaotic in their match threatening to eject the party’s Executive Director Oduor Ongwen from office accusing him of trying to shortchange the Senator who has stood and fought for the opposition.

Police were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the rowdy supporters who were making their way to Orange House.

According to reports, Senator Ongoro is set to decamp from the ODM party after the alleged barring from contesting for the Raraka seat, currently held by TJ Kajwang.

However, Ongoro says she is not aware of her planned defection and learnt of the same through the media saying that she is still in ODM and will battle it out in the nominations for the party ticket.

“I was not in Nairobi when that news came out. I am here to enquire from the party whether it is true I have been barred from contesting or not,” said the Senator.

She added that her defection would not be a secret and that she would do it in broad daylight.

“When I am defecting, I will do it in broad daylight. I am not going to chicken out of the nomination race and will face my competitors at the ballot.”

She, however, alleges that the sitting MP, TJ Kajwang, has already been given a direct nomination and that the party has directed her to choose another seat, just like ‘they did in 2013’.

“I will not be intimidated to chicken from the race. I’m here to present my complain to the party on Ruaraka politics.”

“TJ Kajwang was given a direct nomination on Monday and I was informed to choose another seat just the same way they did in 2013.”

The Senator says that should ODM stop her from contesting for the Ruaraka seat on its ticket, she will consider another party but within the NASA coalition.

Ongoro further claims that goons allied to MP Kajwang attacked her and her people twice and that she has written to the party, yet no action has been taken.

She claims that there are people who are out to split votes for Raila Odinga through the chaos and she is not ready to bow down this time.
