Chaos erupt over quarry site in Trans Nzoia

Residents of Bondeni village in Trans Nzoia County clashed with political allies of Keiyo Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Emmanuel Waswa, over the excavation of murram from Bondeni Primary School grounds.

Journalists who had gone to cover the confrontations were forced to flee when a county government official almost crashed them using a bulldozer.

Violence broke out when residents tried to stop the digging up of a quarry at the school grounds set aside for the construction of Early Child Education classrooms when the MCA’s allies resisted.

The residents almost set a bulldozer and an excavator a blaze but an armed police reservist and a village elder, John Muya, came in to calm the residents.

Confrontations and a fight ensued between the residents and Waswa’s allies lasting to 30 minutes.

Waswa’s group was led by his personal assistant, Benson Munialo.

It was at this time that the driver of the bulldozer sped towards the journalists forcing them to flee.

One of the residents sustained injuries on the right leg after he fell down while fleeing.

The driver was angered that the journalists were taking pictures of the county government equipment.

“These people are bad. Who brought them here to interfere with our work? We don’t want them here,” the angry driver was overheard saying.
