Chaos in Gatundu South over missing ballot boxes

There was chaos during the Jubilee Party nomination exercise on Tuesday morning at Gatundu South, Kiambu County after some ballot boxes came up missing upon arrival at the tallying center

A total of ten ballot boxes were found missing after the voting materials were delivered to the Gatundu Education Hall, an incident that the sub-county returning officers attributed to a miscount of the materials at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi.

Police were forced to shoot in the air after a section of aspirants with their supporters alleged that the missing voting materials were hidden in order to help rig in a certain aspirant.

The returning officers have strongly refuted these claims, maintaining that they are committed to conducting a free, fair and credible nomination exercise.

Confirming the incident, area OCPD Benard Muli said police were forced to intervene after supporters of rival aspirants started clashing at the tallying center.

The misunderstanding has been contained and the missing ballot boxes were replaced. Voting is currently underway in the constituency, as well as other Kiambu constituencies.
