Chebukati denies split in electoral commission

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman, Wafula Chebukati has dismissed reports of divisions in the electoral body saying the commission is united and ready to deliver a free, fair and credible repeat presidential election.

This is after claims emerged that he stormed out of a meeting with other commissioners after a disagreement on the change of elections date following NASA leader Raila Odinga’s withdrawal from the race.

“I want to assure you that the commissioners are working together to deliver our mandate on 26th of October,” said Chebukati.

Speaking in Eldoret, Chebukati further indicated that the commission has already drafted a letter to National Super Alliance addressing important issues that need to be looked into before the October 26th repeat poll.

IEBC has since published a Gazette Notice including Thirdway Alliance’s Ekuru Aukot, Alliance for Real Change’s Abduba Dida, Independent candidates Michael Wainaina, Joseph Nyaga and Japheth Kaluyu in the repeat poll.
