Video: Chebukati says IEBC is ready for referendum
- IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has called for the immediate replacement of four commissioners who resigned.
- According to him, the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is unable to hold plenary meetings since it lacks quorum.
- However, the embattled chairman on Thursday maintained that other administrative duties have not been affected.
The electoral commission boss Wafula Chebukati has said that his team is well prepared in case of the country goes for a referendum.
He acknowledged that though the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is unable to hold plenary meetings since it lacks quorum, other administrative duties have not been affected.
Speaking during a tour of IEBC offices in Kajiado, the embattled chairman called for the immediate replacement of the four commissioners who resigned.
Mr. Chebukati said the law is very clear on replacement of commissioners.
He ruled out the possibility of resignation of the remaining team members noting that such a move is an individual choice.
The IEBC chairman has since gone to court to stop Parliament from sacking the remaining officials.
The electoral boss and his team are on a tour of all 47 IEBC county offices.
So far, he has visited 16 counties alongside Commissioners Abdi Guliye and Mboya Molu.
