Chebyuk Residents Protest Over Land Row

This follows claims that a senior administrator in Cheptais had ordered for the destruction of over 100 acres of maize planted on a disputed land

According to the administrator, the land in question was reserved for the construction of a police station.

The residents said they had leased the land from Bungoma County government at KShs. 6,000 per acre at the beginning of the year and had been issued with valid documents.

Most of the protestors were affected by the 2007 Post Election Violence and have been trying to rebuild their lives

The residents have now called upon the county government to intervene and avoid loses as many of them had acquired loans from financial institutions
