Chelele’s husband charged with her murder

The husband of the late Kalenjin gospel musician Diana Chemutai Chelele, Eric Musila, was on Thursday charged with the murder of his estranged wife before Senior Principal Magistrate George Ongondo in Kericho.

Mr Musila however did not take a plea and was remanded till February 8, 2016 to allow police to complete investigations.

Earlier, security was beefed up at the Kericho Law Courts where members of the public jammed the courtroom baying for his blood.

After being arraigned in court in Kericho, Musila was moved to Bomet where residents protested by burning tires to barricade roads after they learnt that Musila would be held in one of the police stations in the area.

Eric Musila was arrested after detectives lured him out of his hideout in a Nakuru Hotel on Wednesday on suspicion of murdering his estranged wife Chelele.

He is also a key suspect in the 2012 murder of a 44-year-old Eldoret businessman who was allegedly having an illicit affair with the late Chelele.

Diana Musila’s body was found at her Kapkwen home by a family member with deep stab wounds in the abdominal area.

Area police boss Abel Sande while confirming the incident said Chelele’s cause of death was murder but at the time no suspects had been arrested.
