Chepkwony Faces Senate Probe Committee

Chepkwony is making his case before the committee in a bid to save him from being impeached by the Senate.

The 11-member Senate special committee was established to investigate charges leveled against him by the County Assembly.

The committee is chaired by Senator Chris Obure and is deputized by Kiraitu Murungi.

The committee has ten days to probe the impeachment motion presented by members of the County Assembly.

The Committee met on Tuesday to lay down ground rules and procedures for the hearing.

Those set to appear before the committee during the hearing are representatives of the Kericho County Assembly as well as the governor himself and his lawyer.

Chepkwony is the second Governor to be impeached after that of Embu Governor Martin Wambora over two weeks ago.

He has been accused of being in gross violation of the constitution, the County Government Act 2012, the Public Finance Management Act 2012 and the Public Procurement and Disposal Act.

The committee after its sittings is expected to prepare a report and hand it over to the Senate for decision on his impeachment.
