Chicken thief beaten to death by irate mob

A 25-year-old man died after being lynched by angry members of public for allegedly stealing a chicken at Ngwegu Village in Meru South district.

Area OCPD Beatrice Kiragori said the deceased, from Magundoni village, had stolen the chicken when the owner noticed and raised an alarm before he could go far, something that attracted members of the public.

The irate villagers descended on the man with blows and kicks before dousing him in petrol and setting him on fire.

The body has been moved to Chuka District Hospital Mortuary.
