Chief among 5 suspects arraigned over abduction of 60-year-old woman

Five suspects, among them an interdicted chief were arrested and arraigned in court on Tuesday over the abduction of a 60-year-old woman from Bokeire village, Kisii County.

The suspects; Fredrick Nyambati Nyaruri, Benson Machuka, Joseph Moire Onduko, Reuben Onduso Ongeri and Christopher Oyugi Omwega were arraigned before Senior Resident Magistrate, S.K. Onchoro and denied the charges.

They were each released on a bond of Ksh.200,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

The woman was allegedly abducted from her home in Bokeire village on the night of March 11, 2018 by people who stormed her home and gained entry to the house by breaking a window. The abducted woman is yet to found.

According to the woman’s relatives, before she was abducted, some people wanted to force her to sell them land but she refused after which they threatened her with dire consequences.

On Monday this week, Kisii County Police Commander Hassan Abdi appealed to members of the public to volunteer any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects and the whereabouts of the abducted woman.

The case will be mentioned on April 4, 2018 with the hearing set for August 15, 2018.
