Chief arrested in illicit brew crackdown

A chief in Murang’a became a victim of the ongoing crackdown on illicit brew after police discovered an assortment of second generation alcohol hidden in his bedroom.

Kigumo location Chief Stephen Kihara, who also runs a bar, was arrested and frog-marched to Kigumo police station in an operation led by area MP Jamleck Kamau.

Murang’a county commissioner Kula Hache said the chief was selling illicit alcohol and will be charged in court and later sacked, even as the chief denied owning the bar.

Gsu commandant Joel Kitili said his officers are on the ground leading the crackdown and confiscating illicit and second generation drinks popular with area youth.

MP Jamleck Kamau said the Kigumo operation netted 14 tons of second generation alcohol brands and demanded sacking of the area chief selling the brew.
