Chief on the spot for preventing arrest of rape suspect

A chief in Nakuru County has been put on spot for unlawfully preventing the arrest of a child defilement case suspect.

Sendet Location Chief Lewis Kiaraho allegedly helped the rape suspect avoid arrest after defiling a 15-year-old Standard Six pupil at Sinende Primary School.

According to the victim’s mother, the chief went to Naishi Police Station where she had reported the incident and asked the police to withdraw the case, claiming that a solution was being sought at a family level.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the mother said the chief approached her and told her that he had gone to the police station to have the case dropped and handled out of the system.

“The chief told me that he had withdrawn the case from the police, and now the case is with him and the matter can now be resolved at home,” said the mother.

The mother noted that the chief is perverting justice, and asked the government to intervene to ensure justice is served.

The chief however denied the allegations saying he has been following up on the case and that the mother should report any grievances to the police.

It is alleged that the 35-year-old mason lured the girl to his house in December last year and defiled her, leaving her pregnant and infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease.
