Chief risks sack after attending PS Kibichos event while drunk

A Chief in Suna West Sub County risks losing his job after he attended a meeting presided over by Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho in Migori County while drunk.

Got-Kweru Sub Location Chief Fredrick Ochieng’ Okoth was spotted arriving at the meeting staggering and noisy, a scenario that annoyed the PS.

Efforts by his colleagues to defend him yielded no fruit, as the PS maintained he will take appropriate action against him.

The PS was in the county to assess progress made in the ongoing crackdown on illicit brews.

Last month, an Assistant Chief from Molo in Nakuru County was fired for being drunk while on duty.

The administrator was caught drunk during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to Molo and the video clip circulated widely on social media.

The Mawingu sub-location chief was also heard saying that he did not care about the consequences.

In March, Kibicho sacked eight chiefs in Thika over failure to manage the illicit brew menace in their locations.

Speaking to residents in Thika, Kibicho warned administrators against participating in the vice, adding that the move was targeted at chiefs who had failed to tame the trade in illicit brews in their locations.

There have been heightened operations against illicit brew – an effort spearheaded by Kibicho.

In this second phase of the crackdown, several chiefs and their assistants from Mt. Kenyan region have been fired.
