Children testify against their father in murder case

The Nyamira High Court was moved to tears today, when an eight-year-old boy narrated how his father beheaded the mother.

The father, Samuel Otieno Nyakwara is being accused that on October 10, 2015, he murdered his wife Beatrice Masuka at Bonyaiguba village, Nyamira South sub county.

He denied committing the offense.

Appearing before Judge Esther Maina, the boy, who was present at the time of the incident, testified that his father found his mother cooking before grabbing a machete and cut her by the neck.

The boy’s elder sister, aged 18, had earlier told the court that the alleged killer, who is her stepfather, wanted to have an intimate relationship with her and she reported this to to her mother before she was killed.

Investigating officer Walter Mencho, while testifying told the court that it took the police three days to retrieve the body parts of the murdered victim from River Charachani where it was dumped.

Mencho said that the boy, who is the key witness, also assisted police in directing them to where the suspect hid the machete.

The case is set to continue on October 16.
