Chinese “Ivory Hunter” Fined 20M By Court

40 year old Tang Yong Jian was charged at Makadara law courts after pleading guilty on Tuesday to all charges of illegal possession and dealing in ivory.

The Chinese national was arrested at an apartment at riverside in Nairobi 10 days ago with ivory, leopards' skin and multiple passports.

The goods are estimated to be worth millions of shillings.

Meanwhile, a second suspected Chinese ivory smuggler was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi at 11pm on Monday while on transit from Congo DRC to China.

31 year old Chunsheng Zhang was found on a Kenya airways flight with three ivory necklaces, two ivory bracelets, ten pendants and two rectangular blocks of ivory and will be charged later today, Tuesday.

This comes even as the Kenyan governments, in conjunction with the Chinese government are collaborating to fight poaching and illegal trade of wildlife.

Those caught in poaching could face a fine of up to 20 million shillings or serve a jail term of 20 years.
