Chinese national charged with stealing soil worth Ksh.3M in Kisii

A Chinese national, who was supervising the construction of the Kisii -Migori Road, was on Monday arraigned for allegedly stealing and damaging property in Kisii County.

Zhang Shaowei was charged that on diverse dates between July 11 and August 6, 2018 in Bogiakumu location, Kisii South sub-county he stole top soil valued at Ksh.3.7 million from a parcel of land belonging to one Enock Onchangwa.

Appearing before Kisii Senior Resident Magistrate S. K Onchoro, he was charged with stealing contrary to the law and malicious damage to property.

The accused also faced a third count of making false documents. He is accused of making two false documents namely lease agreements purporting that they were genuine lease agreements of the said piece of land.

 

He denied the charges and was released on a bond of Ksh.500,000 with a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh.100,000.

The accused was also directed to deposit his passport with the courthat the accused deposits his passport in the court.

The case will be mentioned on January 14, 2019.
