Chinese Restaurant Manager Remanded at Langata Women Prison

Yang pleaded not guilty to charges of operating without a licence and employing staff without a work permit.

The prosecution in the case wanted Yang, whose restaurant is alleged to discriminate against Africans, denied bail saying she poses a flight risk as her residence is unknown and she still has her passport.

Her lawyer William Okallo, however, refuted prosecution claims saying she presented herself in court willingly and it would be unfair for her to be denied bail.

Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure has slated the case mention and ruling on Yang’s bail application for Monday.

The Chinese restaurant named “Chongching” has been at the centre of controversy following racial discrimination claims and has been closed down for not having the proper paperwork and licences.

ANTI-AFRICAN

The Nairobi County Government  shutdown the controversial 'racist' Chinese restaurant along Galana road in Kilimani estate, Nairobi.

The restaurant has been on the spot for the last few days after reports emerged that it was barring Africans entry after 5pm.

Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero on Wednesday confirmed that the owners had not complied with the physical planning act by converting a residential property to a commercial premise.

Kidero added that the restaurant had no liquor license nor had they adhered to health requirements for food handling.

The governor said that the restaurant will remain closed until it complies.

Investigations into the establishment are ongoing, including that of the ombudsman.

Kidero said that all people should be treated with dignity regardless of race, adding that it was a shame that such a thing could happen, firther stating that those found culpable will be brought to book.
