Chinese tourist killed by hippo at Lake Naivasha

A Chinese tourist died on Saturday evening after he was attacked by a hippo on the shores of Lake Naivasha in Nakuru County.

According to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Chang Ming Chuang, 66, was taking photos together with a colleague when they were ambushed by the hippo.

Mr. Chuang was pronounced dead on arrival at the Naivasha District Hospital while his colleague, 62-year-old Wu Peng Te, sustained minor injuries.

“KWS is sad to announce the death of a Chinese tourist who was attacked by a hippo while taking pictures on the shores of Lake Naivasha. His colleague survived with minor bruises and was treated at Naivasha District Hospital. We are tracking the hippo,” said KWS in a statement.

Mr. Peng Te, who survived the tragic incident, is recuperating at Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort.
