41 police officers hospitalized after contracting cholera

41 police officers housed at the Multimedia University were on Saturday (September 2) taken ill with severe abdominal upset and diarrhea, and are currently admitted in Sinai Hospital in Rongai, Kajiado County.

According to Dr. Geoffrey Musee, Director at the hospital, rapid diagnostic tests for cholera have been done on the 41 and they tested positive.

The police officers were rushed to our hospital at around 2 am after complaining of stomach pains and diarrhoea. Doctors are currently attending to them,” said Dr. Musee.

The County Government of Nairobi City has dispatched a disease surveillance team, public health officers and health promotion officers to the location to further investigate the causes of the outbreak and also the state of the sick.

According to Dr. Musee, the 41 were among the over 2,000 police officers attending a seminar at the varsity.

Authorities say that there is no cause for alarm as the situation has been contained.
