Church leaders give Kerugoya Hospital clean bill of health

A section of church leaders on Thursday visited Kerugoya County Referral Hospital in Kirinyaga County to assess the situation at the facility which had hit headlines over unhygienic conditions.

Led by Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Kirinyaga Bishop Joseph Karimi Kibucwa the leaders asked the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board to allow the hospital admit patients, saying the facility had been thoroughly cleaned.

“At the moment the situation has been rectified, the hospital is clean and operations are running smoothly. Let the board now clear the hospital to continue offering services,” said Bishop Kibucwa.

On Monday, the medical practitioners board had recommended that the hospital suspends admission of patients except for emergency cases until the facility is brought to order.

Governor Anne Waiguru has, however, since confirmed to the board that the hospital has been thoroughly cleaned as recommended and the laundry machine repaired and is now in service.

The church leaders pointed out that should services at the facility be terminated Kirinyaga residents will be forced to travel to neighbouring counties like Nyeri, Murang’a, Nyeri and Embu to seek health services.

On Thursday, new casual health workers begun their duties in various health care and sub-county hospitals in Sagana, Baricho, Kimbimbi , Kianyaga and Kerugoya after Governor Waiguru said 152 staffers would be employed.

Meanwhile, the county assembly on Wednesday approved a Ksh.40 million budget to pay the sacked 346 casual workers.
