Church leaders in Kakamega sue each other over elections

The Kakamega High Court has allowed three church leaders from the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) church to institute contempt of court proceedings against two of their counterparts.

Their bone of contention is that church elections were conducted despite a court order barring them.

In the application made by Revs. John Juma, Simon Alovi and Tom Olendo, the three want their two colleagues Revs. Patrick Lihanda and Patrick Oyondi charged with contempt.

This according to them was contrary to a court order issued last year barring the said elections.

The court order was reportedly issued last year to stop the elections until the case is filed and determined.

Judge J. Njagi, who granted the orders, directed that the two church leaders show cause why contempt proceedings ought not to be preferred against them.

He had issued conservatory orders suspending the release of the election results from the exercise that was held on March 3-4, 2019,

The judge also ordered that the respondents be restrained from submitting any such names to the registrar of societies and holding themselves as bonafide leaders of the PAG Church Kenya until the application which is in court is heard and determined.

The application will be heard between the two parties on April 4.
