CIC castigates governors over unnecessary spending

The Constitution Implementation Commission has accused county governments of setting bad examples of devolution by focusing on wrong priorities.

CIC Chairman Charles Nyachae has said many programmes implemented by county governments are riddled with wastage of public funds.

A section of governors have, however, justified their expenditure by saying they have improved the state of counties.

This comes in amid criticism following reports that the County Government of Nyamira spent Sh7 million constructing a hospital gate.

Another such expense was witnessed in Bungoma County where the government spent over Sh1 million to cpurchase ten wheelbarrows for a slaughterhouse.

Still on ridiculous spending, Kirinyaga County governor is alleged to paid a consultant Sh2 million to open a free Facebook account.

The Constitution Implementation Commission has called on all governors to re-strategise spending for their counties instead of squandering public funds.
