Citizen TV, Inooro TV journalists feted
A section of journalists from Royal Media Services were on Friday feted at the 8th Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA).
Citizen TV reporter Makori Ongechi and cameraman Steve Kiprop emerged winners in the TV health reporting award for their story which exposed the poor state of health at the Kisii Level Five Hospital.
The award recognizes a journalist’s determination to generate interpretative stories that go beyond medical terms to inform the public on health.
Another Citizen TV reporter Enock Sikolia and Steve Kiprop also emerged winners in the TV environment reporting award for their stellar report on garbage rivers.
The report recognizes their in-depth knowledge of covering new developments in conservation, climate change and the impact it has had on human life.
Cameraman Mauritius Oduor won in the development category, for the refugees empire report jointly produced with Wilkister Nyabwa and Faiza Maganga.
The award highlights advancement of agriculture, infrastructure, food and security
The ICT and Telecommunications reporting award for journalists who have written outstanding articles in the area of technological advancement to enable the public understand, embrace and use new inventions was awarded to Dorcas Wangira.
Radio Citizen’s Emma Marevu received the gender reporting award, radio category.
Citizen TV journalists Hassan Mugambi, Asha Mwilu ,Cameramen Moses Mwakisha, Nelson Aruya and Radio Citizen Mombasa correspondent Asha Bekidusa emerged as finalists.
Inooro TV’s Waweru Nyambura and cameraman Ephantus Macharia emerged as runners up in the good governance award.
Speaking during the event, chief guest at the gala, Hon. Raila Odinga reiterated the critical role the media plays saying Kenyans are counting on journalists , as the early drafters of history, to seek and relay the truth.
Sarah elderkin and Pius Nyamora received the lifetime achievement award.
The AJEA awards run by the Media Council of Kenya recognize and award excellence in journalism and encourage professionalism.
Royal media journalists remain committed to high standards of journalism.
