Citizen TV, Radio dominate top Kenyan brands

Citizen TV Kenya and Radio Citizen have maintained their positions as the leading television and radio station in Kenya further illustrating the increased consistency of the Citizen brand with Radio Citizen re-entering the league of top twenty consumer brands  as the only radio station listed in that category.

According to a survey by Superbrands, the world’s largest independent arbiter of branding, M-Pesa was rated as Kenya’s leading brand for the second year running followed by Safaricom, Kenya Red Cross and the Daily Nation.

New entries in the top 20 include oil giant Total, household water storage tanks Kentank and Sportspesa.

The comprehensive survey of marketing experts and over one thousand Kenyan consumers on behalf of Superbrands East Africa, however, found that there was dip in performance of some of the leading food brands as well as digital giants Facebook, Google and Microsoft.

Thirteen brands retained a top twenty position from the previous survey including Tuskys and Nakumatt.

New entrants in the top twenty are Brookside which took eighteenth position and Blueband which has significantly improved in performance clinching twelfth position.

Mumias Sugar, Kenchic, Supa Loaf,Farmer’s Choice, Crown Paints and Equity Bank were edged out of the top twenty in this year’s survey.

The top 20 overall is a balanced blend of global brands, such as Coca-Cola and Dettol, and local brands, such as Nakumatt, Tuskys and fast growing betting brand Sportspesa.
