Citizen TVs Saida Swaleh wins top African award for health journalism

Saida Swaleh, an award-winning journalist at Citizen TV, has been feted yet again.

She emerged as one of the top finalists out of 200 entries for the Africa Media Network on Health (AMNH) Excellence in Health Journalism Awards.

Her story titled Track and Save was recognised for underscoring excellence in health journalism in Africa.

It highlights how a woman in Moyale is using technology to save the lives of infants and their mothers.

An award ceremony was held in Kigali, Rwanda on Wednesday, bringing together some of Africa’s finest journalists from print, TV, radio and online categories.

They were drawn from different media houses in Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda.

“These extraordinary finalists are all worthy of recognition for their tireless efforts in …They are essentially the best of the best,” said Prof Joachim Osur, the Director of Regional Programmes at Amref Health Africa.

The contestants in the TV category were Eunice Omollo from NTV-Kenya (winner), Mercy Kandie from the BBC (1st runners up) and Citizen TV’s Saida Swaleh (2nd runners up).

Winners from the radio, print and online categories were McDonald Gondwe (Malawi Broadcasting Corporation), Eunice Kilonzo (Nation Media Group) and Nancy Agutu ( The Star Kenya) respectively.
