City businessman withdraws assault case against MP Simon Mbugua

A criminal case in which East African Legislative Assembly MP Simon Mbugua had been charged with assaulting former Nairobi Central Business District Association (NCBDA) chairman Timothy Muriuki has been withdrawn.

Mbugua and two others got the reprieve after Mr. Muriuki said he has forgiven the accused persons unconditionally for the incident which happened April 30 in a Nairobi hotel.

Hired goons roughed up the former NCPBA chairman during a press briefing called by Muriuki to address the media on the failures of Mike Sonko’s county government.

During the assault that was captured on camera, the goons whom police placed a Ksh.2.5 million bounty on, threatened to throw Muriuki into the swimming pool at Boulevard Hotel.

MP Mbugua was arrested and charged in connection with the assault. He pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuke.
