City Park killing: Attempted murder charge added for two cops

Two police officers accused of killing a woman at City Park in Nairobi will now face another charge of attempted murder.

Constables William Chirchir from Makadara Police Station and his counterpart Godfrey Kirui from Industrial Area Police Station were arraigned before Criminal Court Magistrate Martha Mutuku where their plea taking was objected on the basis that the two have a pending murder ruling before Judge James Wakiaga in the High Court.

Through their advocate Ham Lang’at, Judge Wakiaga heard that the said court is yet to make a ruling in regards to bail/bond terms in the murder case which is also related to the said attempted murder case.

The two were earlier found mentally fit to stand trial and have since denied the murder offences.

The officers are accused of firing 15 bullets into a vehicle that the late Ms Wangui and Bernard Chege were in on May 20.

Ms Wangui, 41, succumbed to gunshot wounds while the partner Mr Chege, 26, was left fighting for his life in hospital.
