City Park killing: Police officers won’t face extra charges – court

A Nairobi court has ruled that two police officers linked to the City Park killing will not be charged with attempted murder.

According to the judge, the duo were already charged with the murder of Janet Waiyaki in May this year.

“That for avoidance of any doubt the Trial Court shall not proceed with the plea or any direction or orders in this case until this court makes its ruling in this application,” the ruling reads.

The two police officers had objected to the decision by Prosecution to add to their charges in the City Park killing case.

According to them, such a move would amount to abuse of office and an infringement of their fundamental rights.

William Chirchir, an Administration Police officer from Makadara, and his co-accused Godfrey Kirui from Industrial Area are accused of shooting and killing the businesswoman in Nairobi.

The two have since denied the charge as the hearing into the City Park killing continues.
