City residents to suffer a two-day water shortage

Nairobi residence will in the next two days suffer water shortage to allow repair works in major pipeline.

According to gazette notice by the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company, there will be no water from Thursday, April 6 to Saturday, April 8 across the city and some parts of Kiambu and Machakos counties.

However, Nairobi Water Director, Eng. Philip Gichuki, has asked Kenyans to be patient as they repair the system for better service provision.

Mr Gichuki says the company will take a period of 24 hours to repair and another 24 hours to fully restore the water supply.

“We are repairing our system from tomorrow (Thursday) up to Saturday to ensure we better our services in water provision,” said Gichuki.

He also dismissed the claims that there will be no water for three days saying the water shortage will only go for 48 hours.

“The operation will only take two days but not three days as speculations have been making round.”

He has, however, asked Kenyans to conserve the little water available saying it will be inappropriate to misuse the available precious commodity.

Gichuki adds that the shortage is as a result of the prolonged dry season that has seen Ndakaini Dam water basin, which supplies water to the city, lowering.
