Civilians are ready to claim Migingo, Mbadi tells gov’t

ODM Party National Chairman John Mbadi has challenged the government to come clean to the people over the Migingo Island ownership tussle between Kenya and Uganda.

Speaking in Sori Town during a voter mobilization drive, Mbadi insisted that the island belongs to Kenya, adding that the government has a responsibility to protect its people and territory against external occupation.

Mbadi slammed the government for remaining mum as Kenyans suffered at the hands of Ugandan forces, adding that civilians are ready to stake a claim on the island from the neighbouring country.

Source from the island indicate that more than 30 UPDF personnel have been deployed to Migingo to monitor and levy tax from fishing activities.

The Suba Constituency MP rallied National Super Alliance Coalition (NASA) supporters to take up the extended voter registration period to enlist as voters, to elect a government that would respond to their grievances.

Mbadi further urged the residents to turn up to the ballot on August 8, saying opposition leaders under NASA have resolved to appoint a single presidential candidate capable of ending President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reign.
